A rear dormer that turned a Wimborne loft into a proper suite

Three bedrooms, four people, one bathroom. The head height was there. It just needed a dormer and a staircase that made sense.

Emma needed a main bedroom with an ensuite so the two children could take a room each. The existing loft had a 2.6m ridge, which is plenty, but only a hatch to get into it, and the landing below was tight.

Fitting a compliant staircase without eating the landing. The obvious position stole a metre from the smaller bedroom, which defeated the point of the whole project.

We ran the new stair directly over the existing flight, which kept the landing intact and gave us the head height we needed at the top. A full-width rear dormer created a 4.8m wide main bedroom, with the ensuite tucked into the lower eaves where the ceiling drops away.
